Hi
We have two servers in a cluster. Server1 was upgraded from Domino 6.0 to 6.5 and Server2 got a fresh 6.5 installation. Both are set up for SMTP and mail routing with identical configurations and near identical hardware. (Server 2 has has a bigger hard disk running a raid system.)
Since the installtation, Server1 simply refuses to send out mail to outside Internet addresses but it does receive, while Server2 happily sends and receives. Outgoing Internet mail gets stuck in Server1's mailbox and then is returned to the sender after a while. However, Server1 does manage to send Notes mail to Server2, so mail routing is working fin and the problem is with SMTP and the DNS in particular.
Notes log's mail routing events shows:
21/01/2004 22:16:46 Router: Unable to dispatch message 000F6630 to domain yahoo.com. DNS is unavailable or query timed out, message will be requeued
But the DNS settings on both servers are absolutely identical and so are the port settings and hosts files.
I have run fixup and also deleted the mail.box and rebuilt it by restarting the server. Still the server is sending.
